This is such a magical place! My kids have been attending summer camp, schools out, and even some farm and forest school here for over 6 years. They have learned so much about the environment, nature, food, and how it all works together along with practical skills like chopping wood, cooking, and making a fire. They really love the sessions focused on crafting, survival skills, maple camp, and wildcraft (a video game inspired program). The staff is great at helping children participate at a level they are comfortable while also encouraging them to push just a little more and grow. We have had a few parent notes over the years (our neuro divergent kiddos are not perfect) and really appreciate how the counselors have guided them through conflicts with friends. My formerly very shy 8th grader is now looking forward to when they can also be a counselor, which is huge! As a parent, I really appreciate the freedom they are given to explore and experience nature! Photo is my son and friends with the zipline they constructed last summer.

Edit to respond : Our family requested SUF to contact local authorities and they refused to do so. We have audio recording, with their permission, stating this. SUF had zero intentions of alerting local authorities…so we had to do so ourselves. Instead of protecting the vast majority of the children that attended they decided to protect one singular child. They alerted us that as a non-profit they are not mandatory reporters and they would not be reporting this incident. As a homeschool’ program, we expected safety to be at the forefront. We expected our children to be cared for, safe, and looked after. We did not expect our children to be whipped with sticks, threatened or terrified of being shot. I simply suggest parents deeply consider the repercussions of the staff refusing to report such an intense and credible threat. We strongly encourage parents to carefully reconsider before sending their children to Sunbury Urban Farm. While the programs appear warm and inviting on the surface, we found the staff to be inattentive and dismissive of serious behavioral issues. After many years of attendance, our child was unfortunately threatened with gun violence by a new student. The same child was physically aggressive with multiple children throughout the day, yet staff only suggested he “use his words” rather than taking meaningful action or informing parents. Instead of addressing the situation appropriately, staff stated the child would simply be searched from then on, and no further action was taken. The situation only continued to escalate as the day went on, and we felt it was best not to return. In speaking with other families, it became clear that this was not an isolated incident. Given the lack of accountability and poor handling of safety concerns, we cannot recommend this program to other families.

My oldest goes here and absolutely loves it!! We haven't been in Columbus long and it was an unfortunate situation that caused us to move into this new city, so it's been great for her to have such an awesome Summer outlet with other kids, nature, games and exploration !!! Highly Recommend!
