★Samantha KochPlayed in their St Croix Cup this weekend. Not a great experience with the 2009 St Croix Academy Blue team. Not only did St Croix ask us to play up 1-2 age levels in the tournament due to not having enough teams but their own team were playing dangerously while knowing we were a younger team. Yellow cards, red cards, a player blatantly kicking a girl of ours without the ball even present and sending her off the field with an injury. Body checking our goalie resulting in a concussion. The coach told the red carded player not to leave the field which clearly upset the refs. Parents were yelling horrible things at the players and mocking girls who were injured. A few parents at least understood the severity and stated that the dirty playing was typical of a few players and seemed to be frustrated that the team would have to play down a player because of their actions. To top it all off, the coach and team refused to shake hands with our players in the end and the coach could be heard walking off the field cussing. Which says everything you need to know about the values at this club. And that’s just the TEAM we played. In terms of the tournament itself, well they handed out gold medals and then took them back as families were packing up to go when someone realized the tournament directors had made an error. Our team and another team then had to go from Hudson to Afton to have a shootout to break the tie. Everyone was frustrated. Horrible mess. Kids will be kids so it’s not even the players that were disappointing. However, the club should be ashamed of how their coach and some of the parents behaved during their own tournament. It’s clear why the players felt it was acceptable to do the things they did, to players 2 years younger than them. (& no, this isn’t frustration after losing, we tied the St Croix team- pretty sure they came in last. We are content with coming in 2nd behind a team that played well and clean)
