Sea Scout Ship Odyssey is a co-ed, youth-run sail training program in Tacoma operating a 90-foot wooden sailing ship built in 1938 at the Nevins Shipyard and later the Navy's USS Saluda. Through weekly sail training, teenagers carry out every aspect of the ship's duties - taking the helm, navigating, raising sails, planning meals and maintaining the vessel - supervised by adult leaders and licensed captains. It is open to youth roughly ages 13-21, mostly from the Tacoma area but drawing from Everett to Olympia, and runs as a Boy Scouts of America Pacific Harbors Council unit under U.S. Coast Guard Subchapter T rules.
