Rock Solid Science runs Geology Rocks Camp, a small-group week-long summer camp in Edmonds where budding geologists work with real rocks, minerals, fossils, and tools on age-appropriate science projects and take specimens home. Weekly sessions run June through August at the Learning Lab on West Dayton Street, one block from Edmonds Beach Park, combining indoor lab work with outdoor exploration. The space isn’t very large, but with the expert teacher’s guidance, the experience was incredibly rich and engaging. The kids were able to observe rocks and minerals up close under microscopes, use magnets to find Tiger Eye, and run water through the mining sluice to discover different stones and learn what they were. It was so special to identify and collect rocks that we might have simply walked past without noticing before, and we were so grateful that she let my kids take home the treasures they found. The AR sandbox with depth-sensing camera made the topography sand play incredibly exciting, and the kids were completely immersed. Time flew by so quickly! The experience was so meaningful and well-organized, and seeing how happy the kids were made the long trip absolutely worth it. We will definitely come back again! It’s truly a wonderful place for children and adults! to fall in love with the magic of rocks.
★★★★★M RWFantastic spot for kids! What a great idea. We drove up from Seattle to check it out and we all had a blast. My kids, 3 and 5 had so much fun at each station. They loved playing in the augmented reality sand table, sluicing for gems or fossils. Just digging in the big bins of gems and rocks and then looking at them under the microscope. They were so excited to be able to take their little finds home and showed them off at a restaurant afterwards, telling the waiter all about Rock Solid. The owner was so welcoming and passionate about geology. A really nicely and thoughtfully put together spot for kids. Thank you!

He loved gem hunting, creating Arctic animals with the sand table (which is his current obsession), and sifting for more “gems and gold” which he is absolutely convinced is real gold. He also brought home a geode and has already made plans to crack it open. What stood out most was how excited and engaged he was the entire time, thanks to Ms. Amy. It’s rare to find something that sparks that level of curiosity and joy. We highly recommend Rock Solid Science and will be back!
