my go to YMCA great runs great track and gym aswell
This was my first time at this branch of the Y (I was in the area because I was giving someone a ride to class at OCC). It was pretty quiet the day I was there, very clean and very pleasant atmosphere. I felt welcomed by the person at the front desk who gave me guidance on finding what I needed. I would definitely go back if I was in the area again!
One of the filthiest places around. This place is just a dumpster for members cash to support the community. It’s a great thing to support the community and youth programs, but it’s also great to be transparent and honest. They don’t keep up their facilities or clean them. Equipment is old, rusted out, and everything is covered in dust. From the air vents, speakers, etc. Bikes are so old they don’t even have speedometer so you can see your rmp’s etc. Whoever is taking a paycheck for cleaning this place should be ashamed. To have this sign up saying welcoming to all- it’s just an insult- who would think a dirty dusty gym from 1980 is welcoming? Then they email me asking for donations. For what? Mismanaged employees? What a disgrace. I have to pay for two family memberships, one for myself at a different gym with working equipment- and one for kids so they can be in the programs. Paying $100/mo for a family membership and I can’t even workout here. YMCA used to be for all now it’s just for kids.
The Southwest YMCA, located in the SRC arena on the Onondaga Community College campus, is an excellent place to exercise. Although lacking a pool, they do have a six-lane, 1/8-mile indoor track, basketball courts, and well equipped rooms of exercise equipment and weights. They also offer free classes including weight training for seniors. The membership fee is reasonable and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The manager, Abdul, has wonderful people skills, and does an excellent job keeping everything running smoothly. I've had memberships at gyms all my adult life, so I've seen quite a few. This facility is the cleanest I've ever experienced.
