Sequoia YMCA is a Redwood City branch of the YMCA of Silicon Valley, a nonprofit that runs summer day camps, school-break camps, after-school programmes, early learning and swim lessons. The Y's day camps are accredited by the American Camp Association and include options such as outdoor time, cooking, robotics, fashion design and performing arts, with each site publishing a summer day camp planner and registering families through the Y's online system. Financial assistance is available for families in need, and a Summer Day Camp Parent Guide setting out policies is posted online. The branch facility itself offers a pool, fitness centre and Kids Club.

Powered by GoogleI come to this YMCA to swim and the pool is nice and warm. The pool length is perfect for laps and the life guards are nice and friendly.
The staff, in particular, Nirmita at the front counter went way out of her way to help us. We are out-of-state visitors and wanted to pre-register for a cycling class but couldn't and she took it upon herself to write a note to herself for first thing the next morning to sign us up! Also, we had kinda mentioned that I was able to get my online registration working but my husband was not and again, Nirmita took it upon herself to contact someone in IT who reached out to us later that day in email and straightened everything out. Nirmita is one of the best examples of customer care and outstanding customer service that we have an in a very long time. Do whatever it takes to keep her on staff!
I’m only leaving a review for the adult swimming lessons, locker room, and parking. Swimming instructor is a sweetheart and he doesn’t push students to do something they aren’t comfortable in doing. The locker room could be more throughly cleaned and the parking during the weekday evenings is a nightmare. The parking space is small and crowded and it can be tough finding a parking spot including out in the street area.
Ah, this gym offers countless extras you won't find in the brochure, all included in the base membership. Agility training: want some dumbbells, challenge your footwork tip-toeing around all the dumbbells on the ground to make it to the rack (see pic). Also a bit of a treasure hunt, fun! Soft gym upholstery: residual sweat from other gym-goers both seasons the tough material while making it feel like a group workout! Getting tired? Move your workout to the TRX room, where the aroma will snap you out of your funk and motivate you to be efficient and get your stuff done asap, so you get get the heck outta there. One of the many benefits of carpet in a gym. Seriously, with so many specialized and personal trainer-focused gyms in the area, it's nice to have just a basic gym. But it's a bit of a diamond in the rough. I think if the staff made even small changes, it could be so much better.
Really glad to have discovered swim lessons here for my child. He needed a refresher and level 5 was perfect for him after nearly a year hiatus. The pool is clean, warm and has a 10 ft deep end for dives and treading water. Even though it was full group lessons, each child showed progress in their strokes and technique due to a great instructor who was consistent throughout the lessons. The facilities are dated but clean and lessons are reasonably priced. I had to request feedback from the instructor on my child’s progress at the end of the last lesson, but we received a mid-session report card which was a good prompt for me to ask for feedback. Big plus to see families in the community and a diverse group of kids having fun and learning together each week.
