Sail Orcas is a volunteer-run nonprofit that has introduced Orcas Island youth to sailing for 25 years, teaching in the protected waters of West Sound where boat traffic and chop are minimal. Beginner Learn to Sail classes for ages 8 and up are taught mostly in Optimist prams; intermediate classes move sailors into faster O'pen Bics, Lasers and V-15s; and advanced race clinics cover racecourse fundamentals and boat handling. Sessions are half-days, running 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm from late June through August, and lead instructors hold US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification. Wetsuits and life jackets are provided at no cost, and the program also fields a race team that competes regionally and nationally.
The practical details
We list only what the camp itself publishes, and programs change — dates, prices, ages and availability can all move after we check. Confirm the details on the camp’s own website and contact Sail Orcas directly before you register or pay. Last checked August 2026.
