The Orcas Island Yacht Club sponsors and hosts the youth sailing program on West Sound, providing the club's docks, picnic shelter and a purpose-built storage facility for the fleet. Its Junior Lessons Program runs summer sessions for children ages 7-15 from late June through the second week of August, teaching in Optimist prams, O'pen Bics, Lasers and V-15s, with half-day sessions at 9:00am-12:00pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm and all lead instructors holding US Sailing certification. The program reaches over 200 students a year, making it one of the largest youth activities on the island, and it also offers middle school exploratory sailing in spring and fall and feeds the Orcas High School race team. It is delivered together with the nonprofit Sail Orcas and is listed separately under that name.
