Powered by GoogleRocks and Robots was a fantastic camp for my son. The pairing of robotics engineering with rock climbing works beautifully. Both activities ask the campers to slow down, think ahead, experiment, collaborate, and keep trying when the first attempt doesn’t work. My son had a wonderful time. He learned new skills, honed existing ones, gained confidence, and made friends in the process. He came home each day excited to tell us about what he'd done. Dr. George, the instructor, created an environment that was supportive and encouraging without removing the challenge, which is exactly what I hope for in a summer camp. We were really grateful for the thoughtful structure of the camp and the positive atmosphere created by the staff. We would absolutely recommend it.
Our son (7) had a really great time at this camp this summer! It's been really incredible watching him go at his Lego building with a completely new way of considering his build outs since participating in this camp! He's better able to articulate challenges because of the language he developed at the camp, and his patience to see problems through has grown. As a parent, I liked the mixture of age ranges in the camp too! Sometimes seeing a bigger kid do something our son isn't sure about can help ease him into trying the new thing, and I think this camp was an all around great experience for him!
We can’t recommend this camp enough! Our son enjoys building the robots and learning how to code. The addition of rock climbing encourages the balance of physical activities and has boosted his confidence. We have attended 3 years in a row and every year he progresses and enjoys camp even more. The staff are great and I would recommend this camp to any parent who has a curious child!
Rocks and Robots is the best summer robotics and rock climbing camp in Ann Arbor. Not only does your child learn coding on the M-Block/imdbe platform, but your child keeps their hand built robot and their code. Plus your child learns to rock climb. At the last day of camp, your child’s coded robot battles other robots, which is great learning experience too! Our child has attended Rock’s and Robots for the past three consecutive summers. We attribute his love for robotics to this camp! Thank you to Dr G and all of the excellent counselors for your care and your expertise!
This was by far the warmest and most personal camp experience me and my two children (9 and 11) have ever had. The kids were truly engaged in the coding and building of their robots - so excited to go to camp every morning that there was no need to rush the kids along in the morning to get ready - they didn't want to miss a second! At camp, the pace and difficulty is varied, depending on the wants and abilities of each camper. Tons of support, including from adult counselors as well as "Counselors-In-Training", which are kids who were former campers and are there just to help their peers. Since camp, my kids have continually worked on their code and their bot designs, learning and growing their minds without even realizing it. The rock climbing opportunity is an added bonus and offers a nice balance to the brainy stuff. Counselors were awesome. Camp leadership were awesome. If you are on the fence, don't be. This is worth every penny and some.
