The crowd is mixed, from beginners to regular lifters, which makes the environment interesting. I like observing others’ techniques while working out. Water station is convenient, but sometimes pressure is low during peak hours. Not a deal breaker, but noticeable. I’ve built a solid routine here over the last two months and feel more energetic in daily life.

The facilities are very clean & well maintained. Lots of programs & classes for everyone. Everyone is very friendly & encouraging. Great sense of community. My only complaint/recommendations would be for the locker rooms. They tend to be on the chilly side. It would be nice not to freeze while I'm changing, re-entering after swimming in the pool or after taking a shower. Especially in the winter months. & I know this sounds silly, but a couple hair dryers in the locker rooms would be very convenient for someone that goes swimming or takes a shower then has to go out in 30° weather. The hairdryers they have in hotels that are attached to the wall would suffice & they are relatively cheap.

Building is nice inside & out. I love that they have a steam room AND a sauna. The not so good - The weekend hours, are my only complaint. Closing at 6pm on Saturday & closing ot 4pm on Sunday is a bit odd & rather early for a place of fitness. Staff are nice, but sometimes I feel that the customer service is a bit lacking (not rude or unprofessional) I just expect a little more 'upbeat & a 'super nice' demeanor when entering the YMCA. Sometimes when making inquiries about something in the gym, responses can be summed up as 'dismissive, quick & just plain Jane'. For example if I ask about why the coffee is out, the response may be "its just out, we only fill it up once" I feel a better response would be something more like "Hi there, I apologize for that, currently we only service the coffee station once, every morning, but we'll keep that in mind, thank you!" Not a big deal at all, its just when you've traveled to other gyms, you immediately notice minor things like that. Essentially, happy etiquette can be lacking. It is Petersburg though

I love everything about the y but how they don’t keep it clean. The bathrooms, lockers, and showers are always nasty. It doesn’t matter who’s the manager or how much you report it it’s still dirty! I’ve been a member for about 18 years and the last 5 years it’s been dirty! And many people saying it’s clean.. maybe to them! Visit AMFAM and you’d easily see the difference.

I am just beginning my health journey. I am disabled and can barely walk, in fact I bought a wheelchair so my aid can push me to the pool because it's just too far away for me to walk. So far I have been coming to the YMCA every other day or close to it and I am just walking in the water back and forth and I am so pleased with my performance! I am able to walk for 45 minutes at a time! Outside of the water I can only walk about 30 feet!
