Northwest Arts Center is a City of Bellevue arts and recreation facility that runs summer day camps for ages 8-12, including musical-theatre camps that mix indoor rehearsal with outdoor activity. The center also offers year-round classes for all ages in music, dance, pottery, martial arts, fitness and visual art. Bellevue Parks & Community Services offers scholarships so that families can participate regardless of income.

★Rachel O'GradyThis studio is probably great for kids, but my experience with the adult evening class (Painting on Canvas) was very disappointing. I was genuinely excited going in and left feeling deflated. The materials were poor quality. The brushes were visibly reused from kids’ classes and were severely frayed. The instructor even joked about how kids don’t take care of them, which unfortunately showed. We painted a very simple sunset on canvas boards in a basic follow-along format. The only feedback I received was that my painting was “pretty.” For $280 for six classes, this felt like a huge stretch. I was expecting something closer to a high school–level art course with meaningful instruction and critique, not the same format and materials used for 10-year-olds. I’ve had better quality experiences at much cheaper paint-and-sip classes. The instructor herself was very kind and well-intentioned, but the class content and execution didn’t match the price. After the first class, I was no longer excited to attend the remaining five weeks. When I requested a refund, I was told it wasn’t possible since the class had already started, even though there was no way to assess the quality beforehand. Transfer options were offered, but nearly all were already finished or scheduled during work hours, which didn’t work for me. I was told I would need to pay for another class and there were no other options. Overall, this ended up being nearly $300 loss. I wouldn’t recommend the adult classes unless expectations, materials, and pricing are adjusted.
