NorthStar Foundation runs Camp NorthStar, the summer program of the only all-boys out-of-school nonprofit in greater Omaha, serving boys in grades 3-9 with leadership and employment tracks for grades 10-12. Based on a 70,000-square-foot North Omaha campus with a gymnasium and outdoor high-ropes course, the camp spans STEM and arts, robotics, rock climbing, culinary, gardening, photography, college visits, and sports.

★To Blessed To Be StressedMy child went there it is was the worst experience he had. Kids bullied him, he told staff which is the young adults who are in training to be a counselor or whatever. They told him stop snitching. Bigger kids picky on him. He went on fishing field trip, he and other kid had to share the experience of fishing. Other kid never share the fish pole, he told adult and nothing was done. So he wasn’t able to experience it. Which is wrong, I wish he able to enjoy his time. But it never fails someone always want to take some one else joy away. He only went there one week. Some of the kids that goes there are so hostile that it doesn’t make sense. I don’t see how all the adults can keep eye on all the kids…that is impossible.
★Chris VaughnI am the parent of a high functioning autistic 8 year old. He is generally very outgoing and high energy. In new environments, he needs a few days to adjust to the new surroundings. When I decided to sign him up for NorthStar, I made sure I stated he was autistic in his medical profile. His first day went great. His 2nd day, he had issues with staying focused as he was still adjusting. I had to pick him up early and I was told I would be called the following day to set up a meeting in regards to how to work with my son. My son could not come back until the meeting happened. The next day goes by, no phone call. A week goes by, no phone call. I eventually call on a Wednesday twice and my call is not returned till a Friday. When I answer, I’m told my son can not come back for the summer program and to maybe try again for their after school program. It was honestly one of the worst experiences I ever dealt with as a parent and I’ve debated taking it further to a news station. So if your child is not autistic, maybe the program is perfect for your child. But if you have an autistic child, I’d suggest staying FAR AWAY.
★Gwendolyn Foster-SteenHad a relative in the summer program, that had unpleasant experience. Poor training of Summer workers, plus too young to deal with kid stuff. Kids working as teachers and not knowing how to treat the younger boys (nasty comments, taunting, grudge holding against 7-8 yrs. old, etc) Taking away privileges and field trips from kids for no apparent or poor reasons. No parent contact, if privileges were taken, leading one to believe that there were obviously no issues with said student/child. I'm disappointed this organization/foundation and will not be recommending NorthStar to anyone I know or who asks.
