Northern Virginia Sailing School teaches youth sailing from the marina inside Leesylvania State Park, on the lower Potomac River in Woodbridge. Its kids offering is a class series rather than a camp: Mini Skippers (ages 9-12) and Junior Skippers (ages 13-16) meet twice a week for 1.5 hours each across seven small-group classes, learning knots, parts of the boat, navigation and seamanship. The course costs $499 per child, a 90-minute Try Sail introduction is $50, and students must be able to swim.
