Meter Music School runs week-long summer music camps for ages 6-11 at its Columbia City location, with ukulele camps posted for June 22-26 and June 29-July 3. Days run 9:00am-1:00pm and mix instrument-skills practice, a songwriting workshop, full-group camp-song rehearsal, games, small-group band practice and a walk to the park for lunch; campers record their music through the week for a final video shared with family and friends. Tuition is $415 per week, total beginners are welcome, and students may register for any number of camps to build on skills across the summer.

Evan deserves a lot of props for being such a knowledgeable, skilled, and patient teacher. Our lessons have delved into classical, jazz, songwriting techniques, music theory, Ableton Live, and more. I’m getting way more from my lessons than I ever could have hoped for initially. My motivation was to pick up piano again as an adult (I took lessons for a few months as a kid), so It’s really incredible that I get to learn so many valuable things from Evan. The truth is, it’s rare to be able to learn so many different disciplines from just one instructor. In addition to being so multi-faceted (they teach trumpet too, but I haven’t tried that, yet lol), Evan is a very patient teacher. My schedule is all over the place with my day job and being a performer in the evenings, so sometimes I don’t get as much focused practice time as I’d like. That said, Evan does an excellent job providing enough pressure to keep me on track while also keeping lessons engaging when I’m under-practiced. All in all, I couldn’t be happier with my lessons from Meter School of Music. If you’re thinking about taking lessons (adults can too, don’t worry lol), I can’t recommend Meter enough. I’m sure all of their instructors are excellent, but if you’re wanting to learn piano, I wholeheartedly, double-thumbs up recommend Evan!

This has helped me learn the instrument significantly faster than I would have imagined. I had a Jazz melody ready to play by 1st month, and gradual increase in complexity enabled me to play songs like "My romance" and "Sonnymoon for two" by third month. I appreciate how lessons are tweaked based on my immediate need as well as long term goals, instead of focusing on rather traditional approach of going through the book.
