Leonardo's Basement is a Minneapolis nonprofit that has run hands-on summer workshops since 1998, where kids design and build engineering, art, technology, and craft projects. Weeklong sessions for ages 6–17 run June through August in morning (9:30–noon) and afternoon (12:30–3:00) blocks, with extended day available. Projects range from LEGO builds and sewing to teen offerings like welding, drones, robots, 3D printing, and laser engraving.

★Molly PI was unable to sign up online as the class was waitlisted. After 3 email attempts to contact someone, my daughter finally got signed up for her 1 week class. At her first day, I was expecting to go inside and meet her teacher and see the space. It wasn't until we arrived that the person there said I wasnt allowed to go in and that the only time to see inside was during the open houses. They had never informed me of the open houses. This was my daughter's first time at this building and class. I was allowed to take a peak and once inside, there was not another adult in sight. There were about 20 children, but no teacher welcoming my daughter or showing her where to go. I have never been refused my right as a parent to meet a teacher or see a space for a class or camp for my child. I am appalled at their lack of care for the child and family.

★H HFamilyBe aware if you want to send your child to some classes here you have to pay for them when you register. So, for example, if you want to register in February when most of the summer classes are still open, you will have to pay in full for all of them in February. I know a lot of other summer programs do this, but I don't know how people afford it. This year I just have to say no to this and hope I can find something open in April or May for the summer.
