The Clarkston Conservatory of Music is a nonprofit educational institution serving Oakland County and the Village of Clarkston, founded in 1961 by Ivan Rouse and housed in one of the oldest buildings in the village's Historic District. Its instrumental and vocal instructors, who hold advanced degrees in their field of expertise, give private lessons in guitar, bass guitar, ukulele, piano, keyboards, voice, flute, clarinet, saxophone, tin whistle, cello, violin, fiddle, viola, improvisation, drum set and classical percussion. Group classes include Orff Schulwerk for Children (ages 3-6), a child-centered approach that combines music, speech, movement, drama and dance into playful lessons, taught by Miriam Moore; beginner guitar, ukulele and Celtic fiddle classes are listed with details still to come. The conservatory says it is here for beginners from 4 to 64. No lesson rates or class times are published, and the site asks families to contact an instructor directly about lessons.
