This ymca is enormous and includes a pool, hot tub, steam room, and saunas plus plenty of courts. The staff are genuinely friendly. So why 3 stars? Simply put: organizational priorities and neglectful maintenance. The men’s sauna quite literally has splinter-inducing boards because the wood paneling is falling apart inside. The sauna benches are half-collapsed and I saw 2 roaches skittering from the door. I understand every facility breaks over time; however, they’re currently renovating a donor wall by the entrance while the sauna barely holds together. The ceiling is riddled with water-stained tiles and the floors are often sticky. It would be one thing if the family membership wasn’t over $100 monthly yet it is and the facility continues to rot. Please, for the sake of Clemmons, bring this place back to life. It has so much potential as a truly flagship location and I wish the ymca would take care of it.

This is a great facility. It's been a long time since Ive been to a YMCA and I was totally surprised by all the programs, claases, and equipment. The staffs is knowledgeable, courteous, and friendly.

I’ve been coming to this YMCA for nearly 9 years. Great environment, good equipment, and friendly staff. You get to know tons of great people in the community here; it really is the “hub” of Clemmons. Finally, all three of our girls went through the PreK program which was phenomenal. We love the Jerry Long Y!

My wife and I have been coming to the Jerry Long YMCA for several years and I just have to state this. We aren't on silver sneakers so we pay more than many elders, we will both be 70 this year and have been coming to use the second adult pool with the ramp so my wife can treat her neuropathy with water exercise. This year recently they closed for a couple days and promised they cleaned the pool but you can see all the yellow filth on the bottom and it will move with your foot rubbing it and I have slipped on the ramp and in mid pool. Also we fight to park in handicap spots because of the children being dropped off and picked up. This process should be shifted further down the building, there are other doors. Now today I come and they repainted deleting the row of handicap spots against the building. My wife uses a walker and can barely make the distance if I get a reasonable spot. Now they have deleted 1/2 of them and make is cross the parking lot. There seams to be very little concern for the elderly. And she is Soo frustrated, were about to pull out for good, one more thing. The pool temperature says 85 no matter what the water feels like. Some days it is definitely warm, Probably 87 or more, but over 1/2 of the time it is colder and my wife gets pain in her legs and I can also feel the major difference when you get to putting in your shoulders. I have complained and they insist I'm wrong and do nothing. I know for a fact I'm not wrong. Many say it gets cold. I'm truly wish I didn't have to complain, but something must be done, this is not a good environment for your elders.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt like I needed to after today. We went to another YMCA (not our usual one) for my niece’s birthday party, and at first I was really impressed. The building itself is super nice, very clean, and honestly I even thought, hey, maybe we could get a membership here later on. When the lifeguards came in to explain the rules and wristbands for swimming, they were friendly and professional. But unfortunately, that’s kind of where the good impressions stopped. Once we got to the pool, most of the staff working there were younger (which is fine), but they didn’t seem to know how to interact with people very well. My younger sister even noticed a few of them rolling their eyes at us when we weren’t doing anything wrong, which just came across as rude. My husband was standing with our son on the ramp that goes into the pool, and a staff member told him, “Can you please get off the ramp?” Which was fine—we moved right away. But there was no explanation given. I didn’t know what the ramp was for—maybe it’s specifically for people who need accessibility support, I’m not sure—but since no one else was using it at the time, it just felt like it could have been explained a little better. A simple, “Hey, that ramp needs to stay clear for accessibility reasons,” would have gone a long way. The locker room situation was also uncomfortable. I had changed myself and my son in there earlier with no issue. But after swimming, when we went back to change out of our wet clothes, an older staff member sat waiting on me to come out of the restroom and then told me kids aren’t allowed in there. I honestly didn’t notice any signs (and there might have been one, but I didn’t see it). Nobody mentioned that rule beforehand either, which made the whole interaction feel awkward, like I was being caught doing something wrong that I didn’t even know about. Also, my son is only two. I was trying to get changed and get out. Overall, the facilities are great, but the staff really need better training on communication and how to work with the public. Even though I’m young, I’m well-educated and work with the public every day, so I know firsthand how much tone and explanation matter. With some staff training and improvements in how they interact with guests, this YMCA could really stand out. But based on today’s experience, I personally wouldn’t be back.
