The Jackson Area Family Activity Center (JAFAC) runs a 10-week summer day camp in Jackson with a Summer Sports theme, spotlighting a different sport each week alongside related activities, crafts and movies. Local high-school student-athletes host skills clinics for campers at the end of each day. The camp recently relaunched after JAFAC became independent from the YMCA.

I’ve been a member of this gym for a while, and ever since it switched owners, it has gone downhill. The monthly price jumped from $12 to $33, and nothing new was added to justify that increase. No new equipment, no facility upgrades, no added amenities — just a higher bill. For that price, other gyms in the area offer way more equipment, better service, and even amenities like a sauna. They also run programs that take over the basketball court, which means members can’t even play basketball during those times. That used to be one of the best features of this gym. Customer service has been disappointing. Employees rarely greet you when you walk in and are often glued to their phones. When mistakes happen, no one takes responsibility, and you definitely won’t hear an apology. That’s frustrating, especially when you’re paying more than double what you used to.

I like that there are spaces to work one on one with an individual. Clean facility, helpful staff. The weight room areas can feel crowded if a dozen or more are in there, but otherwise well equipped training area.
