Camp Hamwi
Central Ohio Diabetes Association
Camp Hamwi is a summer camp for young people living with diabetes, run by LifeCare Alliance's Central Ohio Diabetes Association, where campers swim, canoe and kayak, shoot archery, ride horses and take part in arts and crafts, nature exploration, sports, team-building games and evening programmes, with diabetes education built into each day. It runs week-long overnight sessions in July and August - a Senior Challenge for ages 13-17 and a Junior Challenge for ages 7-12 - plus a separate week-long Kids Day Camp at Blendon Woods Metro Park in Columbus, with registration handled through an online portal. Overnight camp serves ages 7 to 17, while day camp accepts children as young as 3, including siblings who do not have diabetes. Overnight pricing is tiered at $1,236, $515 or $309 for the same week, with additional financial aid available and the stated aim that 'no camper is turned away due to financial need.'
