Hilliard/Ray Patch Family YMCA - YMCA of Central Ohio

I'm legally disabled. I went into a facility who prides themselves in equality for all, I receive none of it. The heavyset lady that works the front desk who seems like she's in charge of everything but I'm not sure if she's manager but it doesn't matter because she's very unprofessional. She wears glasses. She's very bossy and I could hear her from the floor. What's bothering me is when I walked in the door I got her attention because I don't look like anyone from the area. I have tattoos, braids and in her perception, I probably look like I was lost. What the thing was is, I haven't been there in a while and when she greeted me I looked around, I said oh this looks pretty good in here. You know I haven't been here in a while. She gave me a frown type attitude and gave me a little bit of hard way to go when I got there. Then as I go to the floor that same lady that works at the desk, blonde hair glasses, heavy set. Watches me work out the whole time and then I look back and I wonder what could be? You know as she's being loud telling another employee with long hair a gentlemen what he should be doing cleaning and not cleaning and introduced him to someone else to who works there for directions I believe after she left so she could be in management which makes this even more disappointing and disheartening that she would treat me this way. So as in I finish working out and I feel that being the time I was there between 2:00 and 3:00 in the afternoon on a weekday in Hilliard there is a senior citizen, highly Caucasian community mixed in with some Middle Eastern Indian background. Maybe pakistanian? The only other African American was a black man who worked into the natatorium. The point I'm getting to, Yes I do feel I was very discriminated against in this facility and I'm openly saying it. I don't use the race card ever unless it is actually being used on me and I actually feel it was more than the race thing but more like social thing because I didn't look like I could afford to be in Hilliard. This was obvious by the way, the behavior of the lady behind the service desk at the front was acting and continuously staring at me and watching me work out for over 20 minutes until I went to the natatorium to get into the hot tub because of my physical disabilities. Then I get a call from my home base where I set up my disability plan silver sneakers at Karl road location. On the North side they call and tell me that I went to a YMCA that I've never been before. Again if you check my login I've been there just not recently and I've been there in this year just not recently. But anyways so the same person who watched me and give me a hard way to go took a phone minute out of their day instead of talking to me there and saying hey, your membership has some issues or can we help you fix your membership like another YMCA in Gahanna, When I had a similar issue they gave me a card to take home which is in my car. If I never don't have my phone. Why couldn't they have stopped and said hey Rich can we help you out? She called my home YMCA on Karl road had someone in their membership services call me and tell me that I was at a YMCA that I never been at. Basically I was told I couldn't come back to that YMCA anymore and until I go to the home base which is Karl road they won't let me back in there. My problem with Karl road is their Hot Tub doesn't work,this is why I went to that location by my job. Terrible experience. I'm sure someone's going to come on here and explain why that never happened. I'm physically and mentally disabled, but I am maintaining good health in both, that's why I visited the YMCA to maintain this non-toxic, positive well being lifestyle.

My experience was horrible. Paid a lot of money to not get the time and space I was promised. To be rushed the whole time. We ended up with half the time promised for the price. I didn't even get to see my son open his presents because we were rushed to get out the room when we hadn't even had it the time we were promised. Staff was so rude and made the whole experience chaotic and embarrassing. I don't even think I want to be a member of this organization after this. Horrible do not recommend!

I love the family feeling of the Y. All the “Big Gyms” out there are just looking for a body and a number. At the Y I have always loved being welcomed and the conversations with other members. The classes are great and the pool is always clean. Locker rooms are very well kept. I’m 44 and I have been a member for 10yrs!

I was assaulted here, while holding my 2 year old, and not only did no one make any attempt to intervene, witnesses left without being interviewed and there were no cameras pointing at the area. Now I just got a phone call saying my membership was suspended because I was "involved in an incident." Not that I was planning on bringing my kids back to a place where I can't feel they're safe, but the victim blaming going on is atrocious. Also, this incident occurred outside the family changing rooms, which at the time were both occupied for over a half hour; one by a teenager smoking weed, and the other by the person who assaulted me (for having the gall to knock and ask how long he would be) and nothing is done to make sure the family changing rooms are being used for their purpose.

The YMCA is so much more than a gym and pool! It's a family who welcomes all, cares about individuals, and really cares about making our community a better, stronger place to live. The staff is so welcoming, kind and takes time to get to know everyone that walks through the doors. Why just work out when you can join a family!?
