I can’t say enough about the Delaware YMCA. The group classes are great, especially Grit and Kirin’s class and there are so many to choose from. This Y is always very clean and everyone is so nice. There is so much to offer, especially for kids ( basketball, martial arts, swimming, camp) and the price is very affordable. Check it out!!!

I love our Y. I love the staff and the classes that are offered. We have great instructors like Kirin and Darcy and Amanda. The folks at the front desk, Teri is amazing. I even took an adult swimming class to get stronger and learn a new skill. I just love how its an amazing 3rd space for all of us to go to.

I come to use the hot tub and sauna. The sauna is often either under temperature or broken completely. Hot tub is under 100 degrees every day at random times because of the hot tub pumping in cold water through the jets. the hot tub frequently closes completely due to “maintenance”, sometimes multiple times a week but is never actually fixed. Not sure how this continues to be an issue at a city YMCA after 3 years of this.

I joined primarily to use the pool, but the online schedule is rarely accurate or updated. On multiple occasions, I have arrived expecting open swim or lap lanes, only to find the entire pool taken by swim teams or organizations that were not listed online, or whose reserved times extended well beyond what was posted. At times, nothing is scheduled online at all, yet the pool is completely unavailable and the leisure pool is also closed. Additionally, when swim practice is occurring, lanes 7 and 8 are supposed to remain open to the general public, but this is often not enforced. Another concern is that lifeguards frequently allow children to horseplay and use lanes in the lap pool. This interferes with lap swimmers and creates both safety and fairness issues. Many members, myself included, believe there should be a strict rule against this. I understand that scheduling a pool is complex, but accurate and reliable communication is essential. Members plan their workouts around the posted schedule, and it is very discouraging to repeatedly arrive and be unable to swim. I hope you will consider improving schedule updates, enforcing lane policies, and ensuring that general members have consistent access to the pool. Until then, I would give the overall experience with the Delaware YMCA pool and staff a one star experience.
