My son and his three friends have gone here the past two years. While the camp is nice and the vast majority of counselors are kind to all the children, two in particular have conducted a campaign of bullying against my son and his friends. Despite my son politely explaining the cruelty of the counselors to the director and my wife and one of the other boys parents complaining in person and over the phone, nothing has changed. The director does not take complaints seriously and refuses to either address the behavior with the counselors nor to provide any sort of refund. If your boys are 13 or above I would stay far away from this camp. Update: after posting this review the owner spent the day shadowing the boys with the counselors in question which ensured a fabulous last day for the boys. I appreciate him finally taking the concerns seriously and making sure our boys ended up having a great last day.
My son has been going to Hideaway for 4 summers now. What an awesome place. The kids are outside all day with many different activities such as swimming, gaga, kickball, high ropes, archery, fishing, boating, art, drama….on and on. My son loves how each camp builds their campsite each year and have cookouts with the pit that they build! Counselors are all great with most having teaching backgrounds. They even pickup/drop-off in the camp vans. This is what summer camp should be like and being outdoors and not being stuck inside. Thanks Hideaway!
My kids are now grown young adults that went to Camp Hideaway as kids. As the years have gone on, mI am mortified at what they have told me about their time at Camp Hideaway. Long story short, there has to be a better place to send your children. If not, keep them home.
Hideaway has been a wonderful experience for my son - he's learned how to fish, conquered his fear of heights on a zipline, and made new friends this summer. You can tell there is true care from the owners down to the counselors in training. So grateful for the hard work of many to provide an "old school", unplugged, safe summer experience for kiddos!
