Powered by GoogleThree years ago, when we moved to The Woodlands, we saw an announcement that Gerardo Torrado was opening a new soccer academy. We never imagined how much this club would impact our family and completely transform our experience in this city. For the past three years, GFI has been much more than a soccer club for our family — it became our second home. Our children grew tremendously here, not only as players, but as people. They experienced years full of excitement, discipline, challenges, friendships, and unforgettable memories. The coaches and staff became true mentors who helped shape values such as resilience, teamwork, humility, discipline, and love for hard work. As our family prepares to return to Mexico, we leave with hearts full of gratitude. The impact this club has had on our children and our family will stay with us forever. A special thank you to Coach Darwin, Louis, Luis Población, Memo, Leo, Ryan, and John for being such incredible role models and for truly caring about the kids both on and off the field. This club is building much more than great soccer players — it is helping shape great human beings. Thank you, GFI, for everything.
Lovely facility and the fields are kept in great condition. The community that GFI has built genuinely feels like a family, and the food truck is top tier.
Our experience with the GFI U14 Boys Navy TW team (and other GFI teams) was deeply concerning. As a lifelong soccer player who still plays in an adult league, I have never seen such indefensible behavior at the youth level. Key Issues include: Dangerous Play: Extreme aggression resulted in multiple yellow cards and several injuries to our players. Lack of Respect: Constant disrespect toward officials led to further cards and a hostile environment. Toxic Culture: This isn't an isolated incident. We’ve seen consistent poor conduct, including a physical altercation between adults and players at the complex. Poor Leadership: Coaches and parents reinforce a "win at all costs" mentality that ignores player safety and sportsmanship. Warning to Parents: If you value player development and a healthy competitive environment, this program is likely not a fit. The current culture priorities results over the well-being and safety of the kids, who are between 12 and 14 years old.
I'm going to speak as a dad who's been on this journey with my son for eight years, searching for the right or best academy, and the truth is, GFI is everything any child or parent needs if they're thinking about their child's future in football. The treatment, observations, and weekly evaluations of the players are very thorough. And I've seen the recreational programs, and the kids have a blast while learning not only ball control but also discipline, teamwork, respect, empathy, and more. COME TO GFI, IT'S THE BEST!
We recommend this academy because it has the best coaches and the best teams. My son and we as parents really enjoyed being part of the GFI family. Thank you ❤️
