Field Camp is an outdoor day and residential camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 on two wooded campgrounds west of Charlottesville, Virginia, founded in 2000. Its core program is a day camp with a once-per-week Thursday overnight, featuring the historic spring-fed Blue Ridge Pool and river frontage; older campers (11-15) can join Adventure Weeks with paddling, climbing, caving and hiking trips, and Camp Poplar offers a fuller 1-2 week immersion.

Powered by GoogleMy two girls have attended Field Camp for a few years as well as a week at the overnight Camp Polar for it's first year last year. It's everything you could want for your child: just the right balance of supervision, structure, exploration, and risk to stretch them in all the right ways. The setting is like the camp I remember from my childhood: rustic accomodations surrounded by nature, other kids, and adults who obviously care. The come home tired, happy, and ready to go back the next day (or year!). I highly recommend this camp for it's setting, values, director, and wonderful staff.
Our daughter has been going to Field Camp since she was six. She-- and we-- absolutely love it!! The games, the pool, the connection to the outdoors, the traditions, the friendships, the fabulous counselors. It is everything that camp should be!
Field Camp has become a true summer home away from home for my kids. After trying a variety of different camp options, we stumbled on Field Camp about 8 years ago and knew we’d found our place. We love the change of pace that comes with so much time outdoors and community that has been created that lasts beyond the summer and continues over many years. It has been a joy watching my kids grow in independence, confidence and responsibility through their experiences and relationships formed at camp and in the off-season.
My son has been going to Field Camp since he was 6 years old (he's now 14) and it is the highlight of his summer. We tried several camps and Field Camp was just different. He felt like he was part of a community and having new adventures each day. He would come home happy, tired and excited for the next day. Field Camp is never boring and my son has made so many new friends. Kids he would never have met at school and kids that he sees over and over each summer. It's been just the best experience for our son. We hope he will transition to being a counselor one day so he can continue being a part of the Field Camp family for many years to come.
Our first grader has had a great experience at Field Camp for both a number of summer weeks and the school year off day program. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time with the other campers, made friends and I love that he is spending time engaging with nature! Todd does an incredible job finding fun ways to switch up the days and provides campers with choice. We can't wait until our younger son can join his brother at Field camp too!
