ELIO Academy of Biomedical Sciences · Private
Elio Academy runs ASPIRE, a two-week commuter biomedical research camp for high school students, held on the UC Berkeley campus and starting July 20, 2026. Students work in a laboratory on experimental biology, genetics, molecular medicine and biotechnology, take part in mock clinical sessions and molecular tumor boards, analyze journal articles, and finish by drafting a research manuscript and a scientific poster; instructors are scientists, physicians and PhD-level researchers. Admission is selective, requiring an application, a recommendation letter and a statement of purpose; students must be at least 14 and currently in high school. Tuition is $2,175 including materials, and an online Accelerator research track is offered for students who cannot commute.

Powered by GoogleThis is a wonderful institution. I took their Extended Research Program, and it was very personalized and engaging; classes were always well-taught and collaborative, and great support was always offered during independent research. Additionally, I got a great understanding of how to conduct actual research, definitely will use the tools and concepts taught here in my future research career. Highly recommend for high school students looking to start learning how to research, especially in biomedicine.
The Elio Academy research program provided an outstanding platform to deepen my understanding of biomedical research. What made it truly stand out was how it combined academic rigor with the freedom to explore areas that genuinely interested me. The guidance from the mentors went beyond just teaching—they challenged us to think critically, question assumptions, and approach problems like real researchers. The program’s structure was seamless, taking us step by step through each stage, from shaping a research question to working through complex, real-world cases. By the end, I developed a much stronger grasp of how to interpret scientific studies and evaluate therapeutic approaches. I would highly encourage students to explore their diverse programs and find one that aligns with their curiosity. It’s an opportunity not just to learn, but to truly engage with research in a meaningful way.
This summer, I received the opportunity to conduct independent and meaningful research at Elio Academy of Biomedical Sciences with the guidance of my mentor and the program itself. Through this program, I improved my skills as a researcher and student. Apart from learning more about my research topic, I also learned more about various topics like molecular biology, neuroscience, cancer biology, etc. The program also strengthened my analysis and interpretation skills. The program has challenged me as a researcher, helping me work with limitations and problem-solving. Overall, my experience has been amazing. I would recommend the program to those with a strong passion and interest for research. Elio Academy is a wonderful opportunity to expand your research skills and gain valuable learning experience!
ELIO Academy did a really good job breaking down big topics and making them understandable. What I appreciated most was how they didn’t just teach us the science, they showed us how to use it in our own research. The mix of good teaching and practical application made the experience really worthwhile. The mentors are genuinely invested in your growth. They challenge you without making things impossible, and they always encourage you to look deeper and give you tips on how to communicate better. I left the program with more confidence, insight, and a better understanding in science.
I had a wonderful experience being part of the ELIO program. It really pushed me to think critically, explore topics in depth, and present my research confidently. I appreciated the well-thought-out program structure, which struck a balance between guidance and independence. Even though it got challenging at times (especially managing everything along with school), the support I received helped me stay on track. I also loved seeing what other students were working on—it was inspiring and made the whole experience even more meaningful. Overall, ELIO helped me grow not just academically but also in terms of confidence and communication. I’m really glad I was a part of it!
