The Downriver Family YMCA runs a summer day camp for ages 3 (potty-trained) through 14, framed by the Y as a chance for kids to stay active, address summer learning gaps and have fun. Camp runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with free before care from 7 a.m. and free after care until 6 p.m. Camper-to-counselor ratios range from 6:1 for ages 3-5 to 12:1 for ages 12-14; counselors complete 30-plus hours of training and hold CPR, First Aid and child-safety certification, with background checks and pre-employment drug screening. It is a branch of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit at 16777 Northline Rd. in Southgate.
