The Dow Westside YMCA is a Baton Rouge–area branch of the YMCA of the Capital Area offering full-day summer day camp for children ages 4–12. Camp runs roughly 7:00am–6:00pm with weekly themes and a mix of swimming, sports, games, arts and crafts, and enrichment such as STEM and drama. As a nonprofit Y, it is part of the association's broader camp program, which also offers a teen camp for ages 13–15 at the Manship branch.

This is the worst ymca location I’ve ever been to. They have the most reduced hours I’ve ever seen at a gym. The air conditioning in the gym barely works, unless it’s the staff not turning the temperature down enough. The wall fans are also hardly ever turned on which is crazy, especially with this extreme southern heat pretty much year round. They even close the pool for FOUR and a half hours everyday Monday - Friday (11-3:30) which is ridiculous. The gym membership here is WAY too expensive for them to be closing the pool like that. Clients should be able to enjoy not only the pool, but all amenities during all hours of operation. NONE of the surrounding ymca locations close their pool midday, so why is this location doing it? And why is this gym closing at 3 pm on Saturdays? Seriously, do better.
I’ve taken my son swimming there twice and it was always the same lifeguards and omg they are amazing! I believe their names are Olivia, Taylor and Lydia? I’m truly unsure but they are amazing. The way the act and engage with my son is truly a blessing. Given that he was diagnosed with autism and they didn’t know that but still joked laughed and everything with him! Great job you guys!
I have been a member of the YMCA for over 20 years, and almost all of my time has been spent at the Dow Westside location. I cannot say enough great things about the staff and instructors there. The staff is always polite and ready to help with questions or concerns. The instructors are fabulous! They truly care about the members, whether it’s helping to explain how to use the equipment safely or making sure we use correct body positioning, weights, etc. during the classes. They truly care about our health and wellbeing. It’s a blessing to have a facility of this caliber in West Baton Rouge!
I found my Y, and I still love my Y! The staff, especially Nikki and Susan, are always welcoming and accommodating to everyone who walks into the gym. They welcome you with a warm, friendly smile and conversation every day. The customers are also friendly. The equipment is new, and the facility is clean and newly renovated. I recommend joining the Y.
