Chicago Yacht Club runs its Sailing School out of Belmont Harbor, teaching kids from age 5 up through high school across beginner, intermediate, advanced and specialty classes. Summer classes meet Monday through Friday 8:30am-3:15pm in one- and two-week sessions from early June to mid-August, and 2026 registration is open to the public with a discount for members' children and grandchildren. Younger sailors start on 23-ft Sonar keelboats and Sailcubes (Swashbucklers, Keelboat Kids, Dinghy Demons and Sea Monkeys, ages 5-8), progress through Levels 1-3 in Optimists (ages 9-11), and older beginners join Beginner and Advanced 420 classes (ages 12-17). Adventure Boating for ages 7-15 mixes keelboat sailing, kayaking, paddle-boarding, fishing and marine STEM lessons for kids less interested in racing, while Opti, ILCA and Club 420 race teams travel to regional and national regattas.

Chicago Yacht Club is an exceptional place that combines history, elegance, and a strong sense of community. The location along Lake Michigan is stunning, with incredible views of the water and the city skyline. The facilities are well maintained and thoughtfully designed, making both casual visits and special events feel memorable. Staff members are professional, welcoming, and clearly experienced. Whether you are attending an event, dining, or participating in sailing activities, everything feels organized and well run. It is a special place that truly represents Chicago’s connection to the lake.

Member invitation for lunch. The lunch was delicious. The adult beverage was scrumptious. The View from our outdoor seating was peaceful and relaxing.

A great place for a walk along the lake shore with a beautiful view of the city and the lake. Fresh breeze from the direction of the lake, Ferris wheel, numerous yachts and boats that you can ride!👏❤️

Members only Yacht club located on Monroe and lakeshore drive. From the moment you walk in staff is extremely courteous and friendly. I went in for dinner and it was amazing. I started with the lobster bisque soup and had the pork chop special for my entree. For dessert I had the tres leches cake with coffee, good but a little too sweet. All in all a great experience and hope to return soon.
