I don’t think the YMCA is Christian company anymore. My husband left me on 4/1/26 with 5 kids + 1 adopted. I immediately cancelled my subscription because I couldn’t afford anything. They forced me to pay for 1 more month. Even though I cancelled before my next payment. My “payment” bounced because my husband left us with no money. I finally borrowed $1000 to make it through the month. And not only they took the $65 but they took $95 I needed to pay for bills. I was horrified I did NOT need 1 more month of membership. I needed to pay my mortgage and electric bill. I called them and a kind man said if I come in and fill out some paperwork I would get my money back. He got it approved with a manager. But that was lies. They said they do NOT DO REFUNDS. I never used the “last month”. After packing my kids up to go there AND EXPLAINING MY SITUATION…the woman manager only cared about the money and their “$30 fee for my payment bouncing”. After breaking down and crying because I borrowed money to pay essential bills: A different man manager came and he finally agreed to pay me half of the $65. Also blaming me for the $30 charge they had to get charged. THEY ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN BUSINESS AT ALL. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT MOMS THAT WHERE UNEXPECTEDLY SINGLE AND ABANDONED WITH CHILDREN. I do understand their cancellations rules. But what happened to me was UNEXPECTED. As Christians they should’ve understood and helped me. Instead they just stole borrowed money from a POOR MOTHER. They are heartless. -Diana Haraldson

I would strongly encourage parents to think carefully before enrolling young children in the Cane Bay YMCA youth sports programs. My 4-year-old joined the soccer program expecting a positive and supportive first experience with sports. Instead, within just two practices, he became completely discouraged and now refuses to participate at all. I personally observed the coach repeatedly dismiss my son when he asked for help, while clearly prioritizing his own child and a small group of kids. This was not an isolated incident — it was a consistent pattern that had a direct impact on my child’s confidence and willingness to try. I brought this to the YMCA’s attention, and while they acknowledged the concern and stated it would be addressed internally, they ultimately refused to offer any refund or credit. Despite recognizing that this is not the experience they want for children, there was no flexibility in resolving a situation that left a 4-year-old unwilling to participate. I understand that coaches are volunteers, but this is still a paid program. Basic inclusion, encouragement, and equal attention should be the minimum standard — especially for the youngest age group, where these experiences matter most. It’s disappointing that policies appear to be upheld more strictly than the YMCA’s stated commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment for children. While I appreciate that the concern was acknowledged, it’s unfortunate that there was no meaningful resolution for a child who was directly impacted. I hope improvements are made so other families do not have a similar experience.

Don’t waste your time or money here. The staff is incredibly unfriendly, especially toward teenagers, and they make you feel unwelcome from the second you walk in. The biggest headache is the "rule of the day" culture. It is impossible to keep track of the regulations because they change constantly. I even took a photo of their "Private Property" sign which states members can use the fields if they sign in at the front desk. I followed the instructions exactly, only to be told I wasn't allowed to use them anyway. Every visit feels like a game of "gotcha" where you have to learn a new rule you didn't know existed. Beyond the field issues, the child care is garbage. There is no consistency or quality. Save your hard-earned money and either build a home gym or find a membership at a place that actually wants you there. This place is a bureaucratic mess.

disingenuous, and money scamming facility with zero care for members. I updated my credit card not too long ago, and now I get called and being told that my credit card is not updated therefore I am charged a late fee. They did the same thing with my dad and lied to my face after he called them and emailed them for over 2 weeks trying to update his card. The staff is always rude, especially Georgiana..she need to be fired immediately. Their equipment is always broken and parts are always being “ordered”. They close at every chance they get, and they have zero care for feedback. Actually they will show their ugly side as soon as you give any feedback.

This Y has a new building - but is completely dirty on the inside. Old machines, poor pool maintenance, disgusting hand weights and mats. Nobody is ever cleaning machines. Front desk staff are not helpful- and not cleaning. They offer a family pass at nearly $100 monthly, but have zero access available for teens. If I want to go with my 13,14, or 15 year old, they can only go and exercise with me- they cannot use the pool - or the gym - or the weight room without me being there. So … moms… want to take a yoga class while your teen plays basketball? —- nope! Guess what- they can only do the yoga class with you! I have never seen the gym open for members. They always have some outside pay-to-play program going in the gym, so this Y actually DOES NOT have gym access available as part of the membership. Unless your teen likes to join you for workouts the $90 family pass is a waste. When I asked what access my teen had while I went to a dance class I was told he could go into childcare… which is not true either- also ridiculous! It is impossible to get in contact with leadership. Not sure where the membership dues are going, but it is certainly not to maintenance or programming at this Y location. Here are items needed for improvement: 1.Regular maintenance of facility and machines. 2. Replacing old, broken, dirty equipment. 3. Programming - for ALL members. 4. Access to all facilities and benefits for ALL members. 5. Full time certified and trained staff (on-site).
