I’ve been going to camp highland to I think 4 years now and after every year I go I just get more excited for the next year I go, councilors are great, activities are great, and even food is great. Great Christian atmosphere and great place. If you are considering going you will have a great time connecting with Christ. If you consider going I highly suggest going with a friend or two.

I want to preface this review by saying that I am aware that there are families that love this camp and have been going for years. This review is for the family that is considering this camp and has no knowledge of the camp or how it is run. I recently sent my daughter to Camp Highland in Ellijay, primarily because of its Christian foundation and the values it promotes. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected, and I feel compelled to share our experience. First and foremost, the camp was extremely regimented and overbearing in its approach to discipline and daily routines. Kids were constantly monitored for things like knowing what time it was, or even what they were doing that day. The counselors would only say “It’s camp time” or “We are doing camp things today” They are not allowed to have mirrors or even a watch. My daughter brought volleyball shorts to wear over her one-piece bathing suit and was told by a counselor they were too tight and needed to change (in front of everyone). The level of control felt excessive and stifling, making it difficult for my daughter to enjoy her summer in a relaxed environment. The food was another major disappointment. It was consistently poor—unappetizing, repetitive, and lacking in nutritional value. As a parent, I expect a camp to provide wholesome meals that support kids’ health and energy, but that was not the case here. Additionally, the camp's social rules seemed extreme. If girls talked to boys, the entire group would yell "Code Purple," to embarrass them- which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. I understand the importance of boys and girls having boundaries, but to shame a child for talking to the opposite sex seems a little extreme to me. While I appreciate the importance of instilling Christian values, this camp lacked the inviting and fun atmosphere that we were expecting. My child went to this camp not knowing a single person and was excited to make new friends. Unfortunately, that did not happen. For anyone considering Camp Highland, I would advise thorough research and perhaps look for a program that balances a faith-based atmosphere while allowing them to have some freedom and fun without feeling controlled and babied.

We had an amazing time last weekend with our kids at camp with the outdoor activities such as sports on the field and ropes courses and swings! Big shout out to Josiah for all the help with our needs! Especially drying the shoes of a young camper who fell into the fishing pond! Thanks my friend!

My boys loved it ❤️ They did the overnight camp & they can not stop talking about all of the fun they had!! They loved the time with GOD, all of the fun activities, their counselors, the new friends they made they even raved about the food 🤣🤣 This was their 1st year attending & this camp really welcomed my boys ❤️ They went to a different camp last year similar to this 1 & when asked which 1 they would like to attend next year Camp Highlands was the name repeated over & over again 🤣🤣

I cannot speak highly enough about this amazing place! I have been to Camp Highland for the past two years with a group of middle school-aged children (between 50-55 people). We stayed for 4 nights, 5 days all full of wonderful experiences. The staff was overwhelmingly helpful and bent over backwards to make us feel welcomed and a part of their family. The students thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor activities (so many that we didn’t even get to experience them all!) and were disappointed on our last night that the trip had come to an end (several students asked if we could change our flight so we could stay another day). It was absolutely wonderful watching the staff invest emotionally , spiritually and mentally into each and every student. The accommodations, food, activities and overall experience were far beyond our initial expectations, and I am looking forward to bringing many more groups back to Camp!
