Blackhills FC is a Thurston County youth soccer club that runs three-day summer camps for boys and girls ages 8-15 at Capital Soccer Fields in Olympia. Camp days run 9am to 12pm as two 75-minute sessions with a supervised half-hour break, and focus on goal scoring, creating chances and ball mastery through high-repetition shooting, 1v1 and 2v2, small-sided games, moves, turns and tricks, plus goalkeeper shot-stopping. Camps are open to players from outside the club by pre-registration, with enrollment limited.

We left after 5 years with the club. There are certainly some good coaches within the program and the coaches kept us returning but the overall management of the club is bad. The club needs to do much better at managing team formation. They will create teams with bare minimum of players. I can't tell you how many games over 5 year we showed up with 0 subs or even played a player down. It was a lot and had to routinely email management to address roster issues. Also, BH will create teams with kids that don't have the skill set to compete at the RCL level. This creates a frustrating experience as you travel great distances to get blown out. Leaves kids very frustrated. Mine wanted to quit and did. On more than one occasion our team was put in the wrong division which apparently couldn't be undone and resulted in losing every game and left the kids defeated. This happened in tournaments too. The club preaches one club philosophy but after the kick off meeting the management disappears and is unaware of issues and parents really have to advocate for changes the club should be managing especially when you are paying 200 per month. If your kid has the desire to play, has a good feel for the game, and plays really hard then the club could be a good fit. However, I would really encourage looking at TC United or Oly United before committing to BHFC. You can find competition with these clubs at a fraction of the prices and frustration.
A shameless league ran by amateurs. Kate, Bret, and others are all about taking care of their friends and kids. It's no surprise this place lost souch money to settlements. Incompetence is expected. Even though their kids are not good. They have coaches who should not be coaching, let alone getting paid to do it. Don't worry the referees are the same, take care of their friends, try and look successful, and do a horrible job. So many kids want to quit and go back to rec soccer where at least you expect amateurs.
My son was put on a team with 12 players originally to play 9 positions. Some.players quit and other players joined but all the teams struggled to field 3 complete teams. The club decided to keep black, red, and white teams in a similar position numbers wise all year long. It seemed to me and every other parent that it made sense to go to two teams of 15-16 players. As I found out every club we played had 4-6 subs each game. So, many times.we didn't have enough players to even play or we had one sub. It was such a bad experience that now going back to Oly United im happy just to be watching my son not be run ragged at the age of 11. I really wanted to find a good club that I could trust to develop the skills of my son. My advice to anyone is keep looking. This is not a club you can trust. When asked why they did what they did I was told to talk to someone else other than Bret. I'd love some straight answers from someone about why the management of the rosters was so poor all season.
No technical/individual skill training but expects the girls to figure things out in games. Coach allows a toxic environment where the girls blame one another when they lose the games. Coach allows the favorite players to play almost the entire game but benches the others and only allow them to play 5-10 mins each game and when they are allowed to played, they’re being pressured or intimidated by others. It is not a healthy environment for young players to learn and grow. My daughter’s coach is also very incompetent. Should think twice before sending your kids to the Black Hills FC.
