Powered by GoogleThis afternoon was the last showing of "The Sound of Music" and it was an outstanding performance and musical by a very talented cast of performers. I was very moved with emotion and impressed by the quality of this show and the depth of feeling I felt while watching this performance. The acting, singing, stage sets, costumes were excellent. The theater was organized and seating was comfortable and the audience gave the cast a standing ovation for their superb performance. They seemed to enjoy it as much as I did. This was my first visit to the Athens Theater. I live nearby but I couldn't find a show I was interested in previously. I am not interested in the musical shows that are usually offered there from Rock & Roll era. But, when I saw that they were doing a play at the Athens for the "Sound of Music" my favorite movie I signed up to attend. The stage play was better than the movie. It was if I was actually in the story feeling all the feelings of the Trapp family and Maria. I am so grateful to find that we have such good quality performers and theatrical shows in Deland. I will be back next year to see more of my favorite shows with great anticipation. Thank you so much!
We visited in October, and the play we saw was “Hauntingly Whimsical Tales” I had heard about this theater for a long time and was glad we finally made it. The performance was very well done, and the theater itself has a beautiful old-time feel that is antique and classic. I’ve seen theaters like this in movies before, and being there in person made the experience feel special. Watching a performance in such a historic space made the night memorable, and I can’t wait to come back for another show.
Was there last night for "Holiday Inn" show. Nice building. Clean bathrooms! The cast each took a bow after the show. It was 75 minutes long with a 15 minute intermission. Some of the cast were available to meet people after the show. Had a snow machine blowing from the roof as we left! The band played with them for each song. Trivia questions about the 1942 movie were shown on screen before the play. My only criticism was 5 words of profanity
Truly a gem of the past, preserved for the present and hopefully a long future. It's a beautiful place to see a concert as my wife and I just did. Really great experience. Will be returning for upcoming shows for sure.
One of my favorite places for concerts. The sound is great, the prices are fair, there is free parking, and wine and drinks are affordable (unlike another theater we go to in Central Florida). Also it is very close to stores and bars and restaurants so if you go early you can walk around this nice little town for enjoyment. We have gone there for several concerts and one of them that we like a lot is the Liverpool Legends who are a great Beatles tribute band that don't miss a note while truly paying tribute to the Beatles. This venue is highly recommended!
