American Dance Institute runs weekly summer dance camps at its Wedgwood studio in Seattle, part of a four-location operation that also includes Greenwood, Shoreline and Magnolia. Themed camps are grouped by age: creative dance (ages 4-6), pre-level ballet and modern camps built around fairytales and movies (5-7), children's jazz, contemporary, ballet and modern camps (8-10), and junior/teen camps and a ballet-and-pointe intensive (11-16). A full-day K-5 Dance and Theater camp adds drama games, storytelling, art and music. Half-day camps run 9:30am-12:00pm or 12:30-3:00pm ($300/week) and full-day camps 9:30am-3:00pm ($570/week); every camp ends in a performance.

I have never done ballet before, but when I heard this studio was re-opening near me, I decided to give it a try. I initially took the free trial class, then immediately signed up for Adult Beginners Ballet I. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! Starting as a total beginner at 30, I’m surprised by how much I’ve learned and progressed at ADI. Elizabeth (the Founder/Director of ADI) is such a great instructor! She’s patient, encouraging and just makes everything feel so welcoming. I already signed up for the next level in the series and can’t wait to keep going in spring. Would highly recommend!

Julia Lockhart is such a great ballroom teacher and I would recommend her to anyone! My fiancé and I took private lessons with her to prepare for our wedding. She listened to what we wanted and choreographed a beautiful dance at a skill level we could accomplish with confidence. She was not only super knowledgable and great at explaining steps, but she was also very encouraging and built our confidence throughout all of our lessons. She even taught us a second ballroom style that was more upbeat for general reception dancing. I can't wait to take more classes with Julia!

My daughter looks forward to the Saturday morning ballet classes with Ms.Justine. The class is a lot of fun, the kids learn the basics well, the instructor is always gentle with them, and the location is perfect for us.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience taking a beginner adult ballet class with Margaret K. As someone who trains in another dance form, I could not ask for a more perfect teacher.  The positive upbeat tone she sets for the class, explanations, demonstrations and level of details she goes into are wonderful. She also always humors my many additional questions about arm carriage, hand position, head tilt, gaze and other small things that make a world of difference. If you're considering adult ballet classes, you should strongly consider ADI and make sure your class is with Margaret. She's an asset to the company.

For my son's first dance class, the teacher, style and space are perfect. Jay is a very fun and low pressure instructor, but he keeps class interesting and challenging. Location of the studio is great for us. Flexibility around monthly or quarterly payments is also a nice option. But the best part is it is one of the few activities my son is always happy to attend.
