Alto Swim Club is a competitive USA Swimming team in Palo Alto that offers summer programming for youth swimmers. Its Peak Performance Clinic is a four-day skill clinic (Mon-Thu, 10 am-1:30 pm at Gunn Pool) for competitive swimmers ages 9-13, featuring stroke progressions, video review, and in-water demonstrations. Powered by GoogleOur family joined Alto with excitement and high hopes. We wanted a placer where our kids could grow as swimmers and as people--supported by positive coaching and a strong sense of community. Over time, though, I began to notice a gap between the public image of the club and what we experienced. Many of the most enthusiastic Google reviews appear to be written by current coaches, staff, or their family members. While I understand their pride in the program, it makes it harder for families to get an honest sense of what daily life at the club is really like. Something that surprised me once we were inside the system was how many swimmers take private lessons--sometimes from Alto coaches outside of regular practice and sometimes from other coaches in the area. It's not something openly discussed, but it is part of the culture, and it can create an uneven experience for families who assume that regular practices provide the same level of technical feedback and support. There were bright spots: individual coaches who truly care and moments of genuine growth. But overall, the communication and team culture often felt more performance-driven than collaborative, and my kids' joy in the sport began to fade. I'm sharing this not out of anger, but in the hopes that Alto continues to reflect on how to foster transparency, balance, and emotional safety. Swimming can be a wonderful, lifelong gift when kids feel seen, supported, and inspired--not just measured by times.
Alto Swim Club is an incredible team and a wonderful community! Alto offers something for swimmers at every age and ability level. Thank you to all swimmers, parents, and coaches for everything that you do!
Alto Swim Club is the best ever. I remember starting out as an inexperienced swimmer that was completely horrified by the water. Alto helped me overcome my fears and they taught me the right techniques and were always straight forward on what to work on and improve. I've been here for two years now and recently made my first Age Group Championships! The coaches are understanding, motivating, fun and kind, and they give me the best feedback after a race to help me improve on my next one. GO ALTO!!
The commitment of Alto's coaches to their swimmers' achievements is unmistakable in each training session. The coaches at Alto genuinely invest in understanding each swimmer as a unique individual, making the club not just a place for athletic growth but a community that values personal development. This level of dedication and the inclusive environment make Alto a great choice, and I recommend the club and its exceptional staff to families in the local community
Alto Swim Club will change your life! If you are looking for a program that will push your swimmer to be the best they can be in and out of the pool there is not a better option in northern California. At the Senior level, this program is run like a Division 1 college program, from the way training is structured, to the close knit relationships the swimmers in the training groups develop and the way team travel is conducted, including training trips to Hawaii and the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs in the past year. At the age group level, Alto Swim Club will help your swimmer develop their skills in all strokes and events but more importantly teach them the value of hard work and being a good teammate. If you're looking for a swim team in the Palo Alto area look no further!
