I helped lead camp media where campers created their own newspaper—complete with original interviews, drawings, and stories—and every camper got to take home a color copy at the end of the week. What impressed me most was the staff. Counselors were fully present and actively involved with the kids—playing, crafting, supporting one-on-one, and making sure every camper felt included. Leadership staff were out and about, connecting with campers, staff, and volunteers all week. One moment that stuck with me: a camper who was homesick early in the week found comfort in a conversation with the camp chaplain. She helped him figure out something he was interested in—he contributed a drawing to the camp newspaper—and after that, he never mentioned going home again. As a parent and a grandparent this is the kind of experience I would want for my own children. Camp Aldersgate offers all the traditional fun you'd hope for in a summer camp—along with caring staff and friendships that can last a lifetime. I feel lucky to have been part of it, and I already look forward to returning next summer.
