YMCA Camp Roger is an overnight/sleepaway camp in the Uinta Mountains near Kamas, run by the YMCA of Northern Utah for campers ages 6 to 17. Weekly sessions from early June to mid-August include Traditional Camp, Little Rogers for younger children, equestrian camps and Leadership Training, with activities such as mountain biking, archery, hiking, orienteering, outdoor cooking, theater and arts and crafts. Three pricing tiers help make camp accessible to all families.

★Noah LichtenbergMy son and his friends attended Camp Roger last week, and sadly, it was mostly a negative experience. One of their counselors, Tony, yelled at the kids, pushed them, and even hit my son in the face (which might have been accidental, but is still unacceptable behavior for a staff member). The cabin conditions were also poor. My son’s bunk had holes in it that insects and animals could crawl through, there was a yellow jacket nest inside the cabin, and the place clearly hadn’t been properly cleaned before check-in. There was brown splatter on the wall near his bunk and signs that the cabin hadn’t been tidied up from the previous group. While the camp menu sounded good, my son and his friends said the food itself was inedible. I am extremely disappointed that Camp Roger employs staff who treat children this way and fails to maintain safe, clean accommodations. I would not feel safe sending my son back in the future and cannot recommend this camp based on our experience.

★★★★★N WMy daughter has been three times and my son has been once. They love it so much and say it’s their favorite place in the world. My daughter has grown more independent and mature with each year she goes to camp. We were nervous for our son to go because his adhd that can make it hard for him to regulate his emotions sometimes and he was going away from mom and dad for five nights at only eight years old. BUT we made the right decision in sending him. He loved it so much that he’s been begging to go back all summer. Thank you Camp Roger! (We only had one issue and that was a kid in his cabin was bullying him, but once he brought the issue to his councilor a few times, the bullying was handled. I imagine that can be an issue but as long as the staff takes it seriously and takes actions to stop bullying, we’ll continue to send our kids to ymca camps.)

He had so many enriching experiences which foster independence, creativity, and kindness. The location is in/near Kamas and is so beautiful. This year he is 8 and is all signed up to attend the full Camp Roger. He can’t wait! He already says he wants to go back every year and eventually become a councilor. Let’s see what happens :)
