Powered by GoogleBasketball court is always closed due to lessons or a convention. Same with the pool. During weekdays the courts are rarely open after 4. The app and website sucks. The schedule is highly inaccurate. It is so poorly run. The lack of communication and availability makes it a horrible gym to spend money on.
Sauna still closed for months. Classes are more for older people. Rusted equipment in bad need of servicing or replacement. Gym is very small so limited equipment and people will block others from using equipment with their stretches (Tbf there isn’t a dedicated place for them to do this since it’s a small space). People lounge around and socialize for a long time while on the equipment keeping others from using it so you can’t get your workout in (mostly the older folks)…again worsened because it’s a small gym. There’s only 1 of many of the popular machines such as bench press, incline bench, and smith machine so it’s hard to use those. A lot of the equipment is in bad need of servicing, for example the cable pulleys in the center of the gym require either a strong person or two people to adjust the height…it doesn’t slide well at all. Some of the pulley systems for the machines are not frictionless making lifting awkward without uniform tension. Some of the attachments only have 1 set and if they’re in use, you’re gonna have to wait (for example, the D-handle attachments). Some of the equipment is just cheap, for example the leg abductor machine is useless, you get maybe a 3 inch range of motion (try it out yourself if you visit and you’ll see what I mean), back extension machine sucks. Half of the cardio equipment is not being used at all times representing excess and a waste of space. They could probably get rid of 2 ellipticals, 2 treadmills, etc and add more weight machines. Not an efficient use of the already small space. The gym music sucks because most of the time it’s just some commercial playing in the background. People doing disgusting personal hygiene in the locker rooms and not even having the deceny to do it in a stall or clean up. No towel service. Many broken lockers yet to be fixed. Lots of sketchy people and foul language. There’s a lot of people at this gym relative to how big it is. Probably the smallest YMCA I’ve been to. Edit: YMCA is yet to take action on the gym equipment. Thanks for the corporate response though.
Have been attending this Y for a bit over a year now and always have wonderful experiences. I’m grateful to have a place like this in the community. During the summer I took workout classes with Abby (we miss her!) and swam. i have always had great interactions with italia, she also looks to be a great swim teacher for kids. Now during the winter I find myself mainly using the gym & I’m always greeted with a smile by Monique and all the staff that service the locker rooms. Everyone who works here always seems happy to be there, which says a lot about how a place is run! I’ve even started to get called by name which makes anyone feel special and seen! Hoping to keep coming to this Y as long as I’m in the area. It’s a big part of a lot of people’s lives, well-being and mental stability. Mine included! Thank you west Philly y :)
I took my first Zumba class with the Instructor outstanding! (Somer Jordan) The class was very welcoming, Highly energetic and informative Learning all those really cool, easy dance moves had me looking like a pro enjoying the fun time with everyone in the class, I love the smiling faces the support and encouragement ,I even forgot we were working out. It just felt like having a good time. thank you, YMCA for having her !
I usually use the ymca in Middletown de but I was up this way and figured why not ! There is so many things to do here it’s awesome! I used the weights and went swimming with some really cute guys i met in the store a few days ago. We love hanging out together. Me and the frat boys work out all the time and we always work out shirtless because we get sweaty. The locker room was really nice and clean it even had a slight hint of cologne smell which is better than smelling sweaty clothes. There was a huge spider web 🕸️ in the lobby we almost walked right through the web. It looked sticky and the spider was creepy looking. The staff told us they would call an exterminator ASAP we left we wanted nothing to do with that big web. If they take the web down, we will definitely be coming But if the Web is still there next time we return, we will throw a tantrum on the ground with the toddler! FRAT BOY GANG FIR LIFE!!!
