Vinings School of Art runs summer art camps in Smyrna covering drawing fundamentals, canvas painting, watercolor and three-dimensional sculpture built from wood, plaster, clay and paint; every camp includes drawing lessons. Camps run June 3 to July 26 at $390 per week, with separate classrooms of up to 12 students for ages 6-9 and ages 9-13. Camp starts at 9:15am with paid early drop-off, and optional private piano or guitar lessons are available in the afternoon for an extra fee.

★★Sharon HemphillMy grandchild and I arrived 15 mins early for the 10 am class. As we signed in, the woman ( possibly the owner) at the front counter was indifferent…no greeting. At 10 am, she mispronounced names from the sign in sheet when preparing for class. Instead of children being seated by 10 for the 10 am class, they were still in the waiting area being given the choice to paint or do a project. Then they were directed to the specified classroom. My grandchild chose to do a project. At 11 o’clock I walked into the classroom to find an unfinished project which I helped her to complete. Two sisters, sitting across from her, were awaiting paint brushes so they could finish the project…not enough supplies for 7 children. When situated in the car, I asked if she enjoyed the class. She said it was okay but did not want to come again.

Even though it was almost closing time, the owner graciously welcomed us and, on the fly, set up an art class just for my daughter. After day 1, our daughter enjoyed what she had learned and the staff made us feel whole also. But, Kara helped us a lot. Welcoming a new baby soon has our schedules thrown off and Kara has been extremely accommodating and generous with us. Not only is the program fun for our daughter, but the staff makes it fun for the adults. I would recommend the school. We will be attending throughout the school year too.
