Thornton's Trail Winds Recreation Center runs city summer day camps out of a facility with a gymnasium, climbing wall, indoor track, lap and leisure pools, a lazy river and water slides. Escape to Adventure serves kids ages 5-13 who have completed kindergarten with field trips, games, sports, projects and arts and crafts, while a School-Age Kid Camp for ages 5-10 adds crafts, cooking projects and outdoor fun. Teens ages 13-16 can train as a Youth Program Aid, working alongside counselors while joining camp activities.

Powered by GoogleGreat facility in terms of the building and what the offer. Visited it after purchasing a membership for a year. Tried out this location after visiting the Margaret carpenter location, as the staff there were not welcome and very rude when I was asking questions to find out more about classes and what they offer. I hoped there dedication to respect for teammates and the public would show more than at Margaret carpenter. My first interaction with staff at Trail Winds went just as bad as my first interaction at Margaret Carpenter. Extremely rude staff, seem annoyed to answer my questions about the facility and answering rudely, also seems staff aren’t on the same page about rules as I was told one thing by one staff member when calling to confirm I’d be able to be looked up, and upon arrival was asked to pay because the woman at the counter said she is unable to look me up. . I hoped with a year long membership I’d at least come in to a welcoming friendly staff. Especially at a space where I’m supposed to feel refreshed and revitalized, accomplished. Instead these two interactions have made me feel discouraged and not want to attend. Hopefully the 3rd location isn’t the same experience.
Tidy, well-maintained facility. Staff has been helpful when they're needed. I believe the gentleman’s name is Shaun, I want to recognize him for his consistent willingness to help and go above and beyond in his role. He approaches the tasks he’s helped me with a positive attitude and is always ready to assist others whenever needed. Great recreation center!
The recreation center is wonderful. Great pool, workout room, track, classes, basketball courts, childcare, and preschool. All around, the center itself is wonderful. However, the website and web-based registration portal is AWFUL, and has been for years. We've tried to schedule our daughter for swimming at least a dozen times without success. You have to register within seconds of the registration opening, and God help you if you have any login issues, which we have had a half-dozen times. For instance, a few times we've "discovered" that our password needed to be updated suddenly, or that it just wasn't taking it because the website itself was experiencing high traffic. And if you somehow do login as soon as registration starts, the class will often be wide-open with plenty of room, but as soon as you try to add it to your cart and proceed with checking out, it's suddenly full and you're on the waiting list. This has happened to me twice- when I managed to login, select the class, time, place, go through a few other questions, go to check out - all within a minute of the registration period opening - and boom, it's full and we're on the waiting list. A lot of parents don't even try to register for swimming; not worth the effort. It's one of the worst registration portals of any sort that I've ever had the misery of using.... but other than that, it's a great recreation center. :)
This is the city of Thornton's third recreation center. Trail Winds is more modern and offers a great deal of classes and courses like the other two facilities. As soon as you walk in you eyes are transfixed on the climbing tower near the entrance. The facility is spacious and inviting. The ladies at the welcome desk are awesome. They offer tours or allow you to walk about independently. There are two floor, with the exercise equipment upstairs as well as a walking/running track. They have personal trainers (for a fee) and different dance and exercise classes. Most are posted at the particular areas. They offer daycare but one must inquire about pricing. This is really a great facility that serves the northern portion of Thornton.
This is very well done. I am very excited and can't wait to go there. The gym facilities are awesome. They have efficiently taken use of every inch of the building to have a variety of services. This is a great addition to our city. I'm even surprised to see they even have a pre School. There is something you can participate for all age groups.
