This studio is such a gift to the Jacksonville community. While it’s an amazing art school for kids, the adult classes are equally incredible. I personally took classes with Monica Foye, and I can honestly say she is one of the most special people I’ve ever met. She has this rare ability to make everyone feel comfortable the moment they walk in the door. There is zero intimidation — just encouragement, warmth, and genuine joy in helping people create. For most of my life, I believed I was a terrible artist. Monica completely changed that narrative for me. She has a true gift for breaking down the creative process in a way that makes it approachable and enjoyable, while still helping you grow in real skill and confidence. You leave not only with art you’re proud of, but with a new belief in your own ability. My daughter also attended classes at The Art Garage and loved every single minute. It became something she looked forward to — a place where she felt inspired and supported. One of the most meaningful things Monica does is host student showcases a couple of times a year. The artwork is beautifully displayed gallery-style, and each piece includes an envelope with slips of paper so visitors can write notes to the artist about what they love in the work. It is such a thoughtful, affirming touch that reflects the heart behind everything she creates — building artists up, not just teaching techniques. The Art Garage isn’t just an art studio. It’s a community. It’s encouragement. It’s confidence-building. It’s joy. Jacksonville is lucky to have this treasure.
