Tallmadge Recreation Center
Private
The Tallmadge Recreation Department runs a summer day camp for children ages 5-13 at Lions Park, operating June through early August, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with before/after care available. Campers are grouped by age and take part in sports, crafts, hiking, cooking, swimming, games and field trips. Families can register by the week for one to ten weeks.

Powered by GoogleVery nice rec center. It was big, beautiful, clean, and staff was helpful. They had a really nice concession stand as well. We went there for my daughters basketball ball tournament. I took a look around and they had so many fields and courts there. Not to mention the track and exercise area. If I lived in that area I would definitely go to that rec.
Up untill tonight, I would have rated this place 5 stars. It's pretty sad that the staff here couldn't help a 15 year old kid find his basketball at the close of the night and instead, hurried him out of the building and after he asked to please look at the camera she was told they don't have any access to them. What's the point in having a camera system that nobody has access too!? Is it a trust issue? You're telling me you trust these employees with our children, but not with the camera footage you took of them? So we just paid $10 day pass fee plus a $75 basketball to play for 2 hours. Ridiculous!
This facility has a lot to offer and the staff are friendly, hard workers that keep the whole place spic and span. I love the indoor track because it more closely mimics walking or running outside than a treadmill does, and its nearly quarter-mile length prevents me from feeling like I'm running in circles. I love their free weights, particularly their deadlift platform. However, if you're looking for a place to get in a workout, you often have to plan your workouts around their community schedule, which can be difficult because we're all individuals with busy lives of our own, and if the ONLY time you can squeeze in a workout is when they're having a family fun day or whatever, too bad, you are out of luck. Even if the gym facilities are still open, they frequently host sports tournaments that make the facility crowded and noisy and unpleasant. They have also, in the past year or so, started blocking the inside lane on the track with cones, but only behind the basketball courts. This creates dangerous bottleneck situations when you have walkers or runners of different speeds all trying to funnel down into the remaining lanes. I have witnessed, and been part of, many collisions since they started doing this. I have a feeling this is to prevent collisions with basketball players who spill onto the track, but there are still collisions happening, maybe even more than before. I doubt I will be renewing my membership when it lapses. I know Tallmadge Rec Center is a community center, and that's fine - I just think I prefer being a member at a gym that is ONLY a gym. Preferably one with 24/7 access. I'll miss the track, but again, the cone situation has kind of decided that one for me, too.
