Surf City Yacht Club runs an eight-week sailing and swimming program on Long Beach Island from late June to mid-August, for children aged 4-18 who are junior members or the children and grandchildren of members. Junior sailors learn sailing technique, safety and sportsmanship from experienced instructors, with Optimists split into fleets by age — white for 10 and under, blue for 11-12, red for 13-15 — and Laser, Sunfish and Club 420 sailors racing up to 18. The youngest children join Bay Kids, a safe introduction to sailing and swimming for 3- to 6-year-olds offered three mornings a week.
