Camp Freedom, run by the nonprofit South Texas Juvenile Diabetes Association (STJDA), is a summer camp in Edcouch for Rio Grande Valley children living with diabetes, ages 6-14. It offers a residential (overnight) camp plus week-long day camps themed around nature, science and robotics, all staffed by health care professionals and volunteers trained in diabetes care under a pediatric endocrinologist. Founded in 2012, it lets kids with diabetes connect with peers in a medically supported setting.

We absolutely love Camp Freedom. This will be our second summer with them, and it has already become such a meaningful part of our lives. This place is truly special—an incredible, supportive environment where children feel seen, safe, and empowered. As a family, we deeply admire the mission behind this organization and feel genuinely proud to be part of a community that uplifts and cares for children, especially those living with Type 1 diabetes.
