Squad STX Boys Camp

Squad STX is an overnight boys' camp for ages 12-18 at Dinosaur Valley State Park near Glen Rose, run by U.S. Army infantry officers as an alternative to Scouts and traditional camp. In a fully outdoor setting, campers learn primitive camping, map-and-compass land navigation, shelter building, knots, cooking and small-group leadership, with laser-tag capture-the-flag missions and day and night hiking. It is not a boot camp for troubled teens; father-son sessions are also offered.

Both years have taken him one step closer to independence and maturity using masculine fun laced with grit. It is tough, hot, grueling but also engaging, unique, and cultivating as these boys come back more mature and tougher because of this experience. It is refreshing to have this opportunity available to help prepare to launch my son into the real world through these expeditions. My son was exposed to survival skills, camping, leadership, team work, various tactics, orienteering, land navigation, knot tying, knife handling, shelter building, night navigation, geocaching, fire building, capture the flag, laser tag, first aid, basic self defense, swimming, planning and completing hikes, survival skills, etc. over the course of five days and four nights.
