Large facility with lots of sports options, but lately the quality has been going downhill. Staff doesn’t do a great job enforcing basic rules. For example, there are signs saying no ball playing in the hallways, yet kids regularly play basketball there. I’ve seen smaller toddlers get hit while walking or waiting for their siblings. This keeps happening. If there are rules, they should actually be enforced. Parking has also become a serious issue. With the newer apartment complexes nearby, the road is now marked no parking, which has reduced available spots. It seems like the facility is using the large vacant area behind the building as overflow parking, but that area is not paved, poorly lit, and very risky, especially after rain or snow. It turns muddy and slippery even with gravel underneath, and walking through it in the dark is not practical or safe. Unless they plan to provide valet parking or walking boots, they should at least create proper walkways with a solid gravel or paved surface. Right now, it feels like no one is addressing this, and the overall standards of the facility are slipping.

This facility doesn’t even deserve one star. Google should really have a 0-star or -1 option for places like this. Stay away. Management either doesn’t care or lacks basic time management. They book the facility back-to-back with zero buffer, so teams never get the full 1 hour they paid for. If one group ends at the hour, the next can’t start on time because people need time to wrap up and exit. Paid time is wasted every single slot. And then there’s the parking — a complete disaster. Most of the time the lot is overcrowded and finding a spot is difficult. During winter it’s even worse: the parking lot is covered in snow and hard ice, corner spots are blocked by piled snow, and safe parking is nearly impossible. People who paid for advance bookings couldn’t even park and had to leave. Front desk and management showed total indifference. No concern, no apology, no accountability. If you can’t provide basic scheduling fairness and safe parking, you shouldn’t be running a paid sports facility.

Unfortunately there is no negative star to select. Parking problem has always been major problem and now it the worst. They did not clean the snow (turned to ice) properly and blocking many parking spots. Also, they stopped allowing street parking, no extra parking in the back too. The front desk will suggest you to park at near Starbucks that also remains full. Most of the teams or kids or players suffer from this. If they don’t have parking available till the previous teams leave then they should not charge for first 15 mins or take bookings with a gap of 15 mins.

Sportplex in Metuchen is a fantastic facility for soccer, pickleball, basketball, and more. The indoor fields and courts are well‑maintained, providing plenty of space for practices, games, and kids to stay active. My experience there has been very positive — the staff are friendly and helpful, and the environment feels safe and welcoming. The only thing to note is that it can get busy during peak hours, so planning ahead for your time slot helps. Overall, Sportplex is a solid choice if you’re looking for a place to stay active, play sports, or get your kids involved in athletics.

Staff was very helpful and I’m grateful to the person who gave me a little bag of icefor my twisted ankle. Parking was a little bit of a challenge but a lot was very well lit. I’ll be back.
