Second Stage | Amherst is a nonprofit fine arts center and community event space in Amherst County that runs week-long summer day camps for children roughly ages 5-10. Themed weeks cover different art forms: a Nature-Inspired Art camp with nature journals, terrariums, kaleidoscopes and rock painting; a Puppetry & Animation camp with claymation and improv theater; a Fairytales & Folklore camp built on dioramas and puppet-making; and a Comic camp on sketching, story structure and making comic books. Camps run at the center's 194 Second Street building, in the former Amherst Baptist Church.

Lots of space to sit and chat. Coffee is great and so is the Hot chocolate.

Very beautiful venue! Very historically beautiful building. Me and my daughters competed in the Miss Amherst County pageant which was held here. The stage is just the right size and the layout of the building is easy for events. We all had a blast! My youngest daughter won Tiny Miss Amherst, my oldest daughter was runner up for Petite Miss Amherst, and I won Mrs Amherst County. I recommend this beautiful building for local event events.

It's a wonderful and much needed community center in Amherst. The manager is a kind woman who does a spectacular job. They hold events and vendor fairs to help local farmers, artists and craftsmen. They also have music lessons for a really fair price and kids can qualify fir a scholarship. They also buy and donate to the food bank. They also have small businesses inside such as a holistic yoga center, who by the way is such a pleasant, caring owner and does really professional work. She also has therapy sessions. Inside this assuming church, is a melange of good and kind people trying to make a living and supporting each other in any way they can. Please support 🙏 ❤️ them. Open your hearts and donate or just visit one of their events. Happy Holidays and may God bless us all. 🙏 Ameen
