Seahawk Swim Academy is the UNCW Campus Recreation aquatics program in Wilmington, offering a Learn to Swim program with private and group lessons for ages six months through adult at the Pat Leonard Student Recreation Center. It also runs a Seahawks Swim Camp that pairs competitive swim and dive training with surf lessons and coastal activities.

We shed many tears the first three days, but on day four it was like the switch went on! After 1 week my child is getting the hang of swimming and doing fantastic! The absolute best instructors ever!!! So patient, kind, super encouraging and enthusiastic for the great job the kids are doing. Thankful for the program wish it was year round.

★JoAnne HancockMy granddaughter came to visit for 3 weeks ,I paid for swimming lessons at the college . She only attended one and 1/2 lessons. If your child is timid at all this is not the place for them .its very loud . At least 12 different classes at the same time. After the first lesson my granddaughter didn’t want to go back they dunked her and forced her to put her face underwater. Now of course that’s what you need to do , and of course you are going to get your face wet In a pool. She wasn’t ready, she’s a very petite ,4 year old and from NYC not used to a large pool with 100 people in it.They showed no attention to my request that the only way she would come back was she didn’t want to be dunked. I paid almost $300. If she sat on the side the whole time I’d be fine. I raised 7 children all swimmers all went to camp and had lessons. They just gave me the typical speech of their system. I’m sure it works for 85% of the children . Just alerting parents and grandparents. If your child is at all leary or apprehensive of the water this isn’t where you should go. Next year I’ll pick private lessons or a much smaller class and / or pool.
