Powered by GoogleThe staff are nice, the gym is large and has a vast amount of equipment for everyone , they could use couple more squat racks and maybe 1 more leg press but still great. The pool is adequate as well and they have a good size track and tons of equipment upstairs.
I'm biased since I always prefer the Y over other gym options. It's a well maintained YMCA, but it is also in need of an expansion. The main workout room can't handle the number of people that go to this location at times. I am often playing musical chairs with equipment, and doing sets of whatever is free at that moment. I also have to plan going at some pretty weird days/times to ensure I can access the machines. Sometimes it is genuinely so packed that I can't do anything, and resort to walking the track so the drive wasn't wasted. The track is nice but has one problem - people love stopping in front of you to talk to someone they see, which is wild behavior, but beyond that, it's usually a safe bet and I'm glad it's there. I see people complaining about people "sitting at machines on their phones" - yea, some people may be troublemakers who should become more self aware, but I think a lot of them are just taking the 30 second- 1 min break between sets that you're supposed to do when weight training. If you're in that much of a hurry, you can ask them if you can do a single set per the Y policy. Not sure where so many people got the idea that doing a single set is supposed to be the norm, but I would reserve frustration with only the true machine hoggers. If the treadmill people can get an entire hr on a treadmill, a lifter can get a measly 2-3 minutes on a machine. The people who frequent this location are pretty friendly overall! Just keep in mind the workout room itself is smaller than other locations.
Hi i only gave it 3 stars ⭐️ for a couple of reasons. The staff has always been friendly when i come in. I did notice some of the people that clean the gym can get irritated about things if you don’t want that job then quit. I don’t like some people just sit on the equipment and when you ask if they are done they say no am not finished yet I have noticed they also talk on their phones. Upstairs on the track I don’t like when people just stop in the middle of the track to talk to someone move off the track. Also I noticed on the track they will stop all sudden to watch pickle ball it’s very annoying. Also on Thursday if you go during the Zumba class the instructor is so loud I can hear her over noise canceling headphones. The locker room always smells like stinky feet I have to hold my breath when I go in and get out quick. It’s always busy now when I go in the morning around 10:00 on Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday your lucky if you can find parking.
Do not get a membership here. Commonly no parking spots, hard to find a locker, wi fi doesn’t work and no cell coverage inside, overcrowded, locker room smells, stair masters full, treadmills full, expresso bikes full, sauna full, this place is way over crowded. Where’s all that money going? “Non-profit” yeaaaa. Subsidizing childcare maybe? Putting the Senior center here was an idiot move. Desperately needs to expand but they won’t.
Not coming here any longer. I have been a member for close to 10 years. Today had a staff member who was not on the clock, but was swimming approached me in the locker room as I made a shopping list inside my locker, door open, pointing toward the corner - I needed medicine for my sick child at home. So here I am typing a note to purchase ibuprofen and cold meds and she comes up to me loudly in front of everyone in the locker room and states “ we have a policy on the door you are not supposed to be using your cell phone in the locker room.” Went to speak to the manager ( amIm not a Karen in fact, I’m a very nice person and never like to make waves) and the manager and the higher up manager both defended the woman saying she was just staring policy. Embarrassing in front of all the other customers in the locker room who thought it was ridiculous. With the number of people, I see/hear in the locker room, talking on their phones, talking on earpieces really loudly where you can even hear both ends of the conversation, on speaker, etc. And here I am quietly facing my locker making a shopping list?! Do you want people to come to your establishment and feel happy and welcome or do you want them to feel like they have to walk on eggshells and don’t feel welcome. Well, you have successfully accomplished the latter and I will be going to Glenville YMCA from now on because they are actually nice there.
