Sarasota Sailing Squadron is a nonprofit community sailing club on City Island offering non-motorized sailing, racing, and cruising for members of all ages. It is the longtime host and partner for Sarasota Youth Sailing, whose youth summer camp runs at the Squadron. The Squadron itself is a member club rather than the camp operator.

Powered by GoogleWe had an adult sailing lesson for two non members today with Jay as the coach. Jay was terrific! He explained everything well, was very patient, involved us right away in getting the boat off land to sail, and docking the boat and closing everything up. We were on the water right away, steering and controlling the sail. Jay was in the boat with us and we felt confident and safe. Excellent experience!
Absolutely my favorite place to race out of. Relaxed facility packed with friendly, high skilled people.
Susan, the manager, was most welcoming and informative. Hostess with mostess. Her enthusiasm is infectious. Her professionalism wss beyond compare. We joined as new members and their incredibly affordable boat share program. Took lessons coach Jay, who was tremendous teacher of the squadron’s sailboat fleet. Highly recommend anyone who wants to have fun and sail to join this stupendous club!
The Sarasota Sailing Squadron…what a precious gem! Nothing compares with the beautiful setting on the Sarasota Bay with its exquisite city skyline. Hard to fully describe the peaceful familiarity of this place. Not fancy but ever so special. Here you find history and community, a place where people of all skills and ages get to do what they love, sailing, racing, hosting, and learning from each other. Its absolute charm, even after massive destruction during the latest hurricanes, speaks to how people came together, staff, members and guests to slowly but surely restore the interior and exterior facilities with an eye to preserve its unique look and feel. It’s an ongoing job. Every step of progress on the massive tasks is the result of people rolling up their sleeves together. As one visitor described it: “you don’t find places like this anymore.” It’s like the summer cottage you always want to come back to. The place that has that cozy, old fashion, friendly feel to it, where people can indulge in their love of sailing and being together without needing to impress. Whether a fixer upper or a fancy new sailboat, big or small, everyone is welcome. Best of all, it’s affordable. Not to mention, the lively social events with the yummy food, great music and dancing, where strangers quickly become friends.
Wonderful sailing club! The real deal! Great people. Plenty of opportunities for every level of skill. People warm, friendly and happy to include you. The club is genuinely welcoming. I joined knowing no one and was soon out crewing on boats. It reminds me of the Sailing Clubs in the UK and Hong Kong. Located in a phenomenal area between Lido and Longboat Key, the end of City Island. Sail directly into Sarasota bay 😊
