My daughter LOVES going to Parkettes. My sister and I both attended Parkettes during late 90s/early 2000s on their competition team, so I knew I was immediately enrolling my daughter when she was old enough. She started in the You and Me classes at 18 months old, then progressed to the Kindergym. She gets so excited to go to class each week! Her coach, Sylvia, is amazing with the younger ones! We've even sent my daughter to their camps, at her request. It's amazing to see all the progress she's made in the last 2 years! The classes are a good balance of event practice/technique & fun activities to keep the younger ones engaged.

I’ve debated for sometime about putting up a review because I want to be honest but fair. My 8 year old daughter has loved gymnastics for years, and I finally agreed to let her take a formal class. She has had no formal training up to this point, other than a few months of a very low level tumbling class, and two one week summer camp sessions. I called Parkettes, explained the situation, and told them that I did not know what level she should be. They suggested that I bring her for a trial class and told me which night to come. My daughter was very nervous but also excited. I spent the first 15 minutes of the class watching her from the elevated viewing area. While it was all warmups, she seemed to be listening, following directions, and performing equally to the other girls. Unfortunately, I then had to take a business phone call. At some point in the next 10 minutes things totally unraveled, and I suspect that it was when the kids transitioned from warm-ups to actual skills. Without warning, I had a sobbing child, wrapping her arms around me, and a coach standing next to her saying “this is just not going to work. “There was no explanation as to what exactly had transpired in the 10 minutes that I was tied up on the phone and my daughter was only able to tell me that there was a skill she was not able to do. I came to realize later that they had suggested that she come to an advanced level class, in fact, the highest level class before the kids become part of the official gymnastics team. I am very much scratching my head about this whole experience. My daughter was crushed. Parkettes did offer an apology, but also a number of excuses, including “they thought that she had formal training “despite the fact that I was very clear about the contrary, and “things got switched around tonight and it’s a different class. “. I’m having a hard time reconciling that in my mind. The reality is it does not matter. My daughter initially agreed to trial another class and has since backed out. Her love for gymnastics has been totally destroyed and she no longer has any interest at all. We were never looking for a competitive program, just something fun to allow her to do something she enjoys and get some exercise. Would she have enjoyed it, under different circumstances? Almost certainly. Would she actually have been good at gymnastics? Perhaps, but it’s unlikely that we will ever know. If you decide to try Parkettes, be very clear on what you’re signing up for. My biggest regret is that I did not see how things unraveled. I have a hard time imagining what could possibly have gone so horribly wrong in the 10 minutes I was on the phone. I would love an actual explanation from Parkettes. I’m just so sad for my daughter.
